Family album

In my family, the holidays are about eating, spending time with family, raiding your cousins closets for cute whatever, eating yummy mom-made food, hiding your own clothes so your aunts and cousins do not walk away with your favorite shoes/boots/coats/purses/scarves/jewelry.

We went to my aunt’s house on Christmas day.  Besides being plowed with plantains, I had the luxury of going through several photo albums.

We had quite a laugh. There were very adorable pictures of yours truly as a youngster, and very stylish pictures of my aunties and uncles in Haiti.

My aunt Chantalle (left) gave me quite an earful last time she came over.  Up until Christmas day, I’d never seen these pictures.  My tatie is gorgeous (I always knew that), stylish (I’ve had my doubts), and so young (wow, they were all so young!)….

Here she is on the left with my aunt, Elsie.

Love the dress and the shoes!  More pictures of the shoes and beautiful dresses to come!

I tell you, I’ve hit the jackpot!  I don’t like to have pictures of myself taken, but maybe I should take more of them, my progeny might be interested to know that I too was once cool.

    Was just thinking of you.
Wanted to call to ask if all’s well with your folks in Haiti, but decided to keep your phone line open just in case someone there was trying to reach you.
So I came to your blog instead.
And how beautiful and appropriate on a day like today — when I thought the bad news about Haiti just would never end — to find this eye-candy homage to the beautiful Haitians.

    Thanks, Martine.
    God save Haiti.

Martine, your relatives are so beautiful. I hope they are all safe and well.

  3. Martini says:

Hi Callan and Sandy–Thankfully, mostly everyone is ok. Thanks for checking.

  4. Martine, tried to phone you, relieved to know your people are okay, what a sad thing for Haiti.

I was just thinking of you and glad to read your comment that most people in your family are well. I am sending you and your family my good thoughts.

Fantastic pictures! They must have been on your mind all week. The whole situation is heartbreaking.
