I first ran into Robert Khederian in June at an Improper Bostonian event (he interned there this summer).  His look is definitely American prep.  I thought it would be fun to hear about what inspires his sense of style. By the way, is it me, or does Robert look like Tom Cruise in the first picture?

What inspires your sense of style?
I think it really has to do with the environment I’m in. Generally, I’d say that my style is more American prep, but when I’m back at school I try to put together much more casual looks to run to class in, and since Williams is in the Berkshires, I try to infuse a little more rugged masculinity into my outfits. Lots of plaid!

What is your idea of perfect happiness?
Probably eating a bacon cheeseburger while watching a 30 Rock marathon.

Favorite article of clothing or go to outfit?
Hands down my dark straight leg jeans. I’ve had them for the past six years, and I’ve worn them at least once a week since getting them. If I have those jeans on with a white shirt, I’m dressed for pretty much anything.

What’s one surprising thing you’ve learned about working with Noria Morales?
I’ve definitely learned to think about clothing not so much as individual pieces, but conceptually as parts of an outfit that can really work off each other. I was pulling clothing for a photo shoot with Noria a few weeks ago, and she held up an asymmetric Philip Lim top and said “That hemline would look really beautiful popping out from underneath a sweater”. She was right, and it was something I wouldn’t have thought of otherwise.

Could you share the name of your cobbler? Tailor?
I love Waban Shoe Repair (Waban, MA), but I confess I generally use the in house tailors of wherever I buy clothing. I’ve heard that Newbury Tailors is great, though!

Favorite shopping hunts in the city?
Everybody who knows me will tell you that I essentially live at J. Crew, but since working with Noria, I’ve learned to appreciate smaller boutiques around Boston. I’ve really started to like Stels on Newbury. Oh, and I love Bobby from Boston for vintage pieces. I was getting accessories there for a photo shoot a little while ago, and it took all my strength not to buy out their selection of ties.

Dream career/job/assignment?

I think it’d be so much fun to be either the fashion editor of a magazine or a buyer for a department store…but I also love art! So maybe a gallery owner? haha I figure I have time to decide.

Most overly used word?
Fantastic. It’s kinda my version of “OK”.

I love the belts. So many men stick with the same polished black & brown leather, that it's cool to see some alternatives. Emmi Sorokin has a great post about choosing belts at http://casualstylemanifesto.com/belts-waisted-opp…
