When I was in graduate school, I spent quite a bit of time at the various cafés around town.  It’s a habit I acquired after a year spent living in France.  Café studying removes me from the comfort of my home, and allows me to people watch as I completed readings for my classes.

An unofficial requirement for my graduate program was to read the Economist every week.  Flour Café and Bakery (in the South End) and Panificio on Charles Street became (and are still) my favorite places to get major reading done (whether it be the Economist, the Boston Globe, the Improper or the latest of the Jack Reacher series).  On an early Sunday morning in March, I was at Flour when this woman came in to buy a cake.  She wore a very simple yet elegant white dress day dress underneath her trench coat.  I was in the middle of eating a breakfast sandwich and considered running after her to ask to take her photo, but on second thought, I decided I was happy with this photo you see here. In the end, I was inspired by the simple silhouette of her trench coat and nude shoes.  One thing is for sure, ever since I took this photo, I’ve been after the perfect trench….still looking.
