I Love Corsica!
I have a long list of places to visit. There’s Madagascar, Sofia, Patagonia…I could go on, but as you can guess, Corsica is on that list too.
Corsica is reputed for being one of the most beautiful places on earth. I love mountains and beach. Turns out that Honey does too. And since I’ve read that Corsica is just that: mountains surrounded by the Mediterranean, we knew that it had to be on our list. And so, we’ve been wanting to visit for a looong time. And truly, Corsica did not disappoint. From the coffee, to the wine, to the wonderful weather. It was a dream of a vacation.
We started out in Ajaccio (pronounced Ah-Jack-See-Oh), where we rented an apartment a few meters from the sea. It was absolutely refreshing to go to sleep to the sound of waves kissing the shore. During the day we hung out with friends at the beach and in the evenings picked up pizza from the many pizza trucks around. Oh, and here and there we picked up road side rotisserie chicken for dinner. So good!
After a few days we headed north towards Calvi where we spent the last week of our time in a small village. And by small, I mean really small. I doubt the population was more than 100 people. There were no stores in the village. But true to the French and their dedication to bread (considering that the nearest village was several miles away), a bread man drove through the village each morning at 8am to deliver bread to households.
Our rental was the last house up a winding cobbled street and stone stairway. When we finally passed through the house gates, we were more than pleased to see that the house sat on a small orange and fig orchard. Truly nothing beats fresh squeezed orange juice from freshly picked oranges.
And when we weren’t chasing after lizards and lazing about, we were in Calvi, L’Île-Rousse, or Girolata. And when we weren’t in one of those towns, we snuggled down with Honey Bunny for his naps.
If you get a chance head to Corsica! You won’t regret it.
