To class

Wednesday, September 21st, 2011

Slightly rumpled and running to class. With the weather being hot and cool all at the same time here, sometimes one does need an over-sized sweater to keep warm.

I have my camera with me these days again! Excited to be style hunting again.  The next few days should be a load of fun as Boston Fashion Week gets underway on Friday.  WCVB’s Chronicle will have a whole segment on Boston Fashion Week and the fashion scene here in Boston.  If you can check it out!  Yours truly will be interviewed on the show.  In the meantime, happy Wednesday.

The students are back! I ran into Marisa, a sophomore at Harvard College, while having a quick espresso pick me up last week.Welcome to back students!  To the freshman class of 2015, welcome to Boston.  Just remember to invest in long underwear for those cooooold winter days.

Feeling blue

Friday, September 2nd, 2011

Hmm….I’m noticing that I’ve been posting a lot of navy blue on the blog.  I may have a new favorite color!

What are you up to this weekend?  I have a few assignments though we plan on spending a bit of time on Cape Cod before fall truly settles in.  For those of you who are State side, enjoy the long weekend!

The Fashionista in Boston

Friday, August 26th, 2011

No doubt, y’all read Fashionista or follow them on Twitter, but did ya know that the Fashionista’s own Kendall Herbst is in Beantown…Well, technically, she’s over in Cambridge while getting her MBA at MIT.  While in biz school, Kendall is writing a new monthly column for Fashionista on how a former fashion editor transitions to business school.  To keep up with Kendall’s adventures, follow her on Twitter: @kendall_to_go

I had a chance to catch up with Kendall last week.  Read below to get to know her better.

Name: Kendall Herbst

Occupation: MIT Sloan MBA Candidate, 2013 (previously a fashion editor in NYC)

Where did you grow up? Mostly Colorado with a little Houston, Texas and Calgary, Canada mixed in.

What inspires your sense of style? J.Crew catalogues, fashion editors, and my mood that morning.

What is your idea of perfect happiness? A table of friends, a plate of spaghetti pomodoro (Audrey Hepburn’s favorite food too!), good wine, lots of pets running around and blue skies.

Favorite article of clothing or go to outfit? I love my Gaultier velvet heels rimmed in pearls—like a little necklace for your feet!

Favorite shopping hunts? Ina in NYC is my favorite consignment store. I can’t go there without buying something. Otherwise, J.Crew’s a great go-to or Net-A-Porter’s end of season sale.

Blogs or websites you go to for inspiration? TheCoveteur.com or OlsensAnonymous.blogspot.com—nothing better than endless pages of Ashley and Mary-Kate.

Dream career/job/assignment? I’d like to start-up my own online fashion company.

Most overly used word? ah-MAY-zing

Anything that you avoid wearing? I’m not the biggest fan of those leather sandals that actually lace up to your knee.

Favorite book? So many! For fashion, The Beautiful Fall is excellent. It details Paris is the 70s and the rise of Yves Saint Laurent and Karl Lagerfeld. G-G-G-Glamour!

Favorite book store? Strand in NYC.

Which living person do you most admire? I admire all of my best girlfriends so much for their sense of humor, their loyalty, intelligence, and grace.

Beauty secrets? Tinted moisturizer is everybody’s friend and strong eyebrows really frame the face.

What do you love about living in Boston? The people. My classmates at MIT are, I’m convinced, the nicest (and smartest!) people ever.

Favorite restaurant in BOS? I just tried Parish Café—yum!

Pet peeves? When the tip of a high heel comes off and you hear the sound of a nail clacking along the sidewalk. Or when as you are walking and your skirt hikes up so you have to keep pulling it down.

The quality you most admire in a man? Integrity.

The quality you most admire in a woman? Confidence.

If one word could describe you, what would it be? Grateful.

What defines success for you? Louboutins! Just kidding. Working hard and having loving people around me.

Perfect day in Boston? An early jog along the Charles, some time lounging in the park reading a good book or listening to fun tunes, a leisurely dinner party at a friend’s apartment, and an hour in sweatpants watching Bravo with my cat to close the day.

Blast from the past

Thursday, August 25th, 2011

I was look through my archives yesterday while finalizing my picks for the exhibit when I came across this photo from June 2008.  It’s been 3 years and her dress and accessories (though her glasses are a tad bit dated at this point) are still very en vogue.

I still think the print of the dress, the bracelet up to her forearms are all so spot on.  I love this outfit, her smile, and the way the wind picked up her skirt.  Beautiful.
