I’ve been going through my files to prepare for the exhibit and came across this picture I took in New York in 2009. I think, this photo was taken somewhere on the metro in Brooklyn. I’m really digging the silhouette of their heels.

Hope you had a fab-U-lous weekend. For me it was all about catching up on sleep, overdosing on Haitian food, and assignments on the Cape.

I have a few dye/bleaching DIY projects to undertake this summer. I want to bleach something…I just haven’t figured out what. My cords just may make a good project.. My jeans are out of the running since I only have three pairs (I have to admit, I’m not a huge jeans person). I have a very worn (four years in the making) pair of grey cords that have been with me on every vacation that I’ve taken in the past few years. They’ve been on 4 continents and are appropriate for the winter as well as the summer (so they work in both hemispheres simultaneously). The crotch of my babies are almost gone though. I’m taking them with me to Venezuela to see if they will actually see me through my visit there. I’ll keep you updated. After Venezuela, I’m calling my new DIY project: Dye, baby, dye. Ok, not original, but I do have a mean corny–though, I’d like to say silly—streak.

In the meantime, I’m suuuuper excited about Venezuela, and hope that I’ll be able to share some photos with you. I leave TODAY!?! (You can’t see it, but I’m doing my happy dance as I type this post). I never know how trips will go when it comes to style hunting. Even a visit to NYC or Paris makes me pause. With each place I visit, I have to wait to see what people truly wear. The style barometer is always changing even in one’s hometown. So it usually takes me at least 2 days to take stock before noticing what’s truly going on. What are people wearing? What is special? Who’s being original and who is following an unpublished mandate? What are the common trends? What sticks out? We’ll have to wait to see. Until next week!

Happy Friday and enjoy your long weekend (for those of you who are in the States)!

Since I’ve known Brooke, I’ve taken an interest in choosing blouses that are feminine with a bit of whimsy. Brooke and some other friends and I have a standing date for oysters on a regular basis. Hopefully, I’ll be able to take a few pics to share with you. In the meantime, enjoy the lovely Lauren. By the way, Laruen’s blouse is from Ann Taylor.

Can’t Buy Me Love (the 1987 version) was on TV this weekend. It was wonderful to relive that time, the fashion, the lingo. Riding on my 80s high, I was positively delighted to run into Alli in Union Square in NYC the next day.

We immigrated to the US in 1986 so my impressions of the 80s (at least of the 80s here in the US) are full of wonder. My mom would only let us watch TV on the weekends nonetheless, television offered a wonderful window into life here. I’m enjoying the return of wonder; I’m enjoying the return of the 80s.
