Who says you have to have a traditional handbag?  Why not convert a soccer ball/football into a bag?  I spied this one bag at the Chloé Spring 2012 show.   Talk about a DIY project!  Speaking of projects, I’m busy working on finalizing photos for an exhibit, “To The Nines” that I’m having at the Boston Center for Adult Education from March 5 – April 20.  If you’re local, hope you’ll be able to stop by to see the photos.

I’m currently hat crazy.  I love the look of them; they add the slightest bit of panache to my winter wardrobe.  It was a treat to see the recent video from Bill Cunningham on how NYC ladies are wearing their hats. And then there were all the hats in the movie, The Artist. I love’em!  I’m trying to get Honey to get a hat, but he’s not interested.  I’m gonna keep trying though!

Boy did we get snow in Boston this weekend!  This of course translates to:  “Darn it! I have no photos to share this week.  Arggggggghhhhhhh!!!” Saturday was a quiet day style-wise since it snowed for half the day.  And on Sunday, by the time 5:30pm rolled around, and the light had already gone, that’s when I spotted dapper folks. Hmmmph! Better luck this coming week….I hope.

Last week, I showed a photo of my aunt Nirva.  This week I’m sharing photos of her beau, Clodel who would become my uncle through marriage.  This photo, along with Nirva’s photos were taken in the 80s in Haiti (all except the first photo in which Clodel is leaning against the car—he’s obviously in the States in that one).  I have loads of photos of my aunties all dressed up in Haiti, but this is the first time I’m seeing photos from my uncles.  Since most of my other uncles live in Haiti, I’ll have to wait to go there before I can share photos of how they rocked it with you.

Collar tips are slowly making their way back, though those who love all things western/cowboy inspired would say they never truly went away.  I’ve seen them online and in magazines.  In Boston, I haven’t noticed them at all.  Are you wearing them?  If not, what are your thoughts on them?  If you’d like to know how to make your own, check out, this post from the fabulous ladies of Honestly…WTF.  Oh, this photo is from Madrid.

Around the holidays this year, I visited my aunt Nirva (in the above pictures).  Nirva* throws a mean party each New Year’s Day and this year was no different.  Honey, a new and enthusiastic gourmand of Haitian cuisine could hardly contain himself as all his now favorite foods were served at the party.  And me, well, I very kindly helped myself to the family photo albums.  Hey, a blogger’s gotta do what a blogger’s gotta do.  I’ve scanned a few photos to share with you of Tatie Nirva and her then honey (now husband).

With the anniversary of the earthquake** in Haiti, I’d like to remember the beauty of Haiti and how sassy my aunties were.  Nirva had albums upon albums of photos of herself.  She could have given the modern-day personal style blogger a run for their money.  I’m due for a trip to Haiti very soon, you can bet that I’ll raid the albums back at home too.  In the meantime, I’ve made a resolution this year to take a lot more photos of myself.  I’d love for my future nieces and nephews to look at photos of me and my cousins and think: “Whoa Aunties?  Did you keep those clothes?”  And I’ll respond, “Yup, that’s how we rocked it in the 2000s!”

*Notice how in the first photo Nirva is way too big for her bike.  Methinks she borrowed it from someone in order to take this photo.

**These photos were taken in front of my mum’s house in Haiti at a time where it was being built.  Unfortunately, we had to tear it down.  I suppose we’ll rebuild soon enough.

I ran into Toni last week.  I’ve been in browns, blacks or cream this winter.  Earth tones are attracting me quite a bit this year.  I forgot to ask Toni about her Love ring.  Here’s one that is similar.

We had a particularly nippy day in Boston yesterday.  Because of the cold weather, I decided not to bring my camera with me.  Low and behold everyone was smartly layered.  I’m not making the same mistake for the rest of the week.  The camera will be glued to my hips
